By the end of 2018 like the previous year (2017) I personally established a list of resolutions focusing on goal achievement which will enhance my quality of life and new learnings.
2019 – New Year Resolutions
01. Pass ICASL (Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka): Executive level (March 2019 / September 2019)
(01.01) KE2 - Management Accounting Information
(01.02) KE4 - Processes, Assurance & Ethics
02. Self-studies ( ICASL and other study texts)
03.01. Sri Lanka Accounting Standards - LKAS
03.02. Sri Lanka Auditing Standards - SLAuS
03. Study the capital markets [CSE.lk / Etrade.lk]
04. Practice Physical Exercises.
05. Public speaking and leadership skills training
During the previous year (2018) I was able to set 5 resolutions for the current year (2019).
2019 was one of the worst years of my life. I had no job or education this year.
Like the previous year, I couldn't get through ICASL: Executive level. It was due to my personal decision of changing my academic focus into non-academic objective attainment.
Thereby I missed an opportunity to achieve one of my resolutions for 2019.
Though I did a 1 job, at an audit firm [Deloitte Sri Lanka (SJMS) (January 2019 to March 2019)] which was tough and was extremely ridiculed by my senior staff, the survival by conducting the work even at an average pace and with an acceptable accuracy was commendable in my opinion.
I helped out Mr. Rukshan Perera (Rukshan Ayya) in his financial statements for his construction company (Grand Shades Engineering (Pvt) Ltd.) during the period of July 30th to December of 2019. This was also not as complete or accurate as I expected the financial statements to be.
I was again a vegetarian in 2019 from February to June on and off due to religious reasons.
I started a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) specialized in finance from the University of Colombo (U of C) from December 2019 to February 2020 due to boredom at home which was stopped due to my new job which I found in the year 2020 February. (NEXT Campus (Pvt) Ltd.)
I traveled a lot in 2019 with my family.
- April 10th to 11th, 2019: Adam's Peak / Sri Padha
- April 17th, 2019 - Kandy
- May 25th to 26th, 2019 - Sinharaja
- June 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, 2019 - Jaffna
- June 29th to 30th, 2019 - Kalpitiya
- July 26th, 2019 - Kandy
- August 10th to 18th, 2019 - Russia (St. Petersburg and Moscow)
- Sept. 25th to 26th - Kandy
- November 2nd & 3rd - Trincomalee
- November 22nd & 23rd - Katharagama
I watched some television series during the year due to joblessness.
- Koombiyo (English: Ants, සිංහල: කූඹියෝ) (2017) [January 2019 to October 2019]
- Thriloka - ත්රෛලෝකා (2018) [October 2019]
- True Detective Season 03 [January 2019]
- Black Mirror Season 05 [June 2019]
-The Big Bang Theory Season 12 [July 2019]
- Cricket World Cup 2019
During 2019 I was exposed to 07 job interviews which did not lead any success.
(01) 2019 January 14 - Interview at SPM Tax and Management Consultants
(02) 2019 July 05 - Final Interview at EY (Ernst and Young)
(03) 2019 July 06 - NSB Selection Exam
(04) 2019 November 25 - Interview at Kelani Tyres
(05) 2019 November 25 - Final Interview at Family Rehabilitation Centre: Colombo
(06) 2019 December 10 - Evergreen Shipping Agency Lanka (Pvt) Ltd.: Interview
(07) 2019 December 16 - Interview at Hayleys Group
(08) 2019 December 31 - Interview at Siyapatha Finance PLC
Overall the objective of having resolutions for a year is to have a good life.
And it was not a good year (2019) for me.
Hoping to go forward (survive) in 2020 better than in 2019.
The main reason for the lack of objective attainment is the lack of focus in academic life and professional life.
And also too much weight on non-academic objective attainment.
