Fantasy of watching 'Rani (2025)'

 

It has been a long time since I watched a film with my mother, and it was also 'Rani (2025)'. It was on 2025.03.15 at Gampaha - Regal Cinema at 7 PM show.

This film created a major public phenomenon and was also considered a blockbuster. This was evident from the crowd during my visit to the show.

'Rani (2025)' is a good push to the current government.

Since I am a movie freak, I was motivated to watch this film. I noticed the film's meta-cinema techniques in its rough and soft forms.

Shehan Karunathilaka's 'The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida (2022)' is also equal thematically as an artwork.

Hence, this film is unmissable.

In 2024, I only watched one film since I was in a detox and it was also 'Whispering Mountains (2023)' which shares blood memories of the dark period of 88 - 90 of Sri Lanka.

I have watched four Asoka Handagama films.

They are as follows,

(01) Let her cry (2016)

(02) Asandimitta (2019)

(03) Alborada (2022)

(04) Rani (2025)

When I was schooling, 'A Letter of Fire (2005)' was famous among people and created a public outcry. But I haven't watched it, though.

When I was watching this film, it reminded me of 'The Godfather Trilogy (1972 - 1990)' and the Sinhala film 'Paangshu (2018)'.

Asoka Handagama's way of breaking the social norms looks dangerous, but is unparalleled.

When I came home after watching the film, I showed my mother 'Victor Ivan's Paradise in tears (2006)'. She also shared her experiences about the dark period of 88 - 90 of Sri Lanka.

The last film I watched before Rani (2025) was 'Ridley Scott's Napoleon (2023)', which was also different from traditional biopic film tradition. 

Rani (2025) is a special moment in my Asoka Handagam fandom. It's because of its discourse and marketing, and its relevance to current political discourse.

Post script - Alborada (2022) also created a similar kind of buzz and discourse with two translations of Pablo Neruda published during the period of economic crisis and struggle.

මම අම්මා එක්ක කාලෙකින් චිත්‍රපටියක් බැලුවේ. ඒ අවුරුද්දකට විතර පස්සේ. ඒකත් බැලුවේ රාණි (2025). ඒ 2025.03.15 ගම්පහ රීගල් එකේ රෑ 7 දර්ශනය.


මෙම චිත්‍රපටය ආශ්‍රිතව බොහෝ විශාල කතිකාවක් බිහිවූ අතර එය විශාල ආදයම්ද ඉපයූ බව සදහන් වෙනවා. මම බැලූ දර්ශනයටත් විශාල වශයෙන් සෙනෙග ඇවිත් සිටිම එයට හොද උදාහරණයක්.


රාණි (2025) වර්තමාන ආණ්ඩුවට හොද තල්ලුවක්.


මමත් චිත්‍රපට පිස්සෙක් නිසා රාණි (2025) නැරඹුවේ කැමැත්තෙන්. මාවත් ඒ විදිහට සකස් වී තිබුනු නිසා එහි සුමට මෙන්ම රලු 'පාර සිනමාව' (meta cinema) මට ස්මීපව දැනුනා.

ඒ නිසා මේක මිස් කරන්න බැරි film එකක්.


මම 2024 වර්ශයේ බැලුවෙත් එකම එක චිත්‍රපටයක්, ඒත් රහස් කියන කදු (2023). එම චිත්‍රපටයත් ලංකාවේ ඒ භීම සමයට උදාහරණ සපයනව.


මම ආශෝක හදගමගේ චිත්‍රපට හතරක් නරබලා තියෙනවා.

මා පාසල් යන සමයේ අක්ශරය (2005) මහත් කතාබහට තුඩු දුන්නා. නමුත් එය මම තාම නරබා නැත.

මම 2025 මෙම චිත්‍රපටයට පෙර නැරඹුවේ රිඩ්ලි ස්කොට්ගේ Napolean (2023), එයත් සම්මත චරිතාපදාන චිත්‍රපට සම්ප්‍රදායට වෙනස් වූ චිත්‍රපටයක්.


රානී (2025) මාගේ සිනමා රසිකත්වයේ සංන්දිස්තානයක් වේවී. ඒ එම චිත්‍රපටය ආශ්‍රිතව බිහිවූ කතිකාව හා අලවිකරනය හා වර්තමාන දේශපාලනයට එම නිර්මානය අතිශය සමීප වන නිසාය.


පසු ලිවිම - අල්බොරොදා (2022) ආශ්‍රිතවද මෙවැනි කතිකාවක් මෙන්ම පැබ්ලෝ නෙරුඩාගේ පරිවර්තන දෙකක් නිකුත් වීම සදහන් කල යුතුය. එම පොත් මා මිලදිගැනිමද සදහන් කල යුතුය. ඒ 2022 දී පැවැති ආර්තික අර්බුදය හා අරගල සමය මැදය.

Resolutions : 2024

 

By the end of 2023 like the previous year (2023) I personally established a list of resolutions focusing on goal achievement which will enhance my quality of life and new learnings.





2024 – New Year Resolutions


01. Try to organize and re-structure the auditing and accounting books (ICASL, CIMA, ACCA books) 

02. Self-studies and start attending lectures to IBSL-DABF 

03. Study the capital markets [CSE.lk / Atrad.lk] 

04. Practice Physical Exercises. - Treadmill and other equipment 

05. Public speaking and leadership skills training 

05.01. Read books - Goodreads.com reading challenge

05.02. Personal training

06. Stay at Sampath Bank PLC or make a good strategic career change 

07. Daily meditation practice 

09. Personal Hygiene 

* Brush teeth at night and morning

* Shave every week

* Cut fingernails every week

* Keep your legs on the ground

* Take a wash every day




During the previous year (2023) I could set 08 resolutions for the current year (2024).

Like the previous year, I couldn't get through CASL: Business level. It was due to my personal decision to change my academic focus to professional life objective attainment. The objective was to try to organize and re-structure the auditing and accounting books (ICASL, CIMA, ACCA books) 

Thereby I missed an opportunity to achieve one of my resolutions for 2024.

However, I started self-studying and also attending IBSL-DABF lectures leading me to achieve one resolution. However, with the syllabus change and my failure to pass exams related to the field, it was not fully achieved.

I also invested and started analyzing the capital markets in Sri Lanka leading me to achieve another resolution marginally. 

I did exercise very often. Therefore I was not able to achieve the no. (04) resolution. 

Though I was unable to practice public speaking and other leadership skills training I was able to read and achieve my 'Goodreads.com' reading challenge. 

Another resolution was to retain my job at Sampath Bank PLC and maintain a stable career unlike in 2018 and 2019 which was achieved this year in 2024. 

Also, I wasn't able to do my daily meditation practice. Therefore one of my resolutions was not achieved. 

Also, I was able to maintain and follow up personal hygiene in an acceptable manner which was achieved with personal margin. 

* Brush teeth at night and morning

* Shave every week

* Cut fingernails every week

* Keep your legs on the ground

* Take a wash every day


Overall the objective of having resolutions for a year is to have a good life.

And it was not a good year (2024) for me.

Hoping to go forward (survive) in 2025 better than in 2024.

The main reason for the lack of objective attainment is the lack of focus on academic targets.

And also too much weight on non-academic goal attainment.
