ඇවිළෙනසුළුයි (2020) : අධියතාර්තවාදී හා ත්‍රාසජනක ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය සිනමා කෘතියක්

"ඇවිළෙනසුළුයි (2020)" සිනමා කෘතිය මා නැරඹුවේ 2020 මාර්තු 13 වෙනිදා වන අතර ශ්‍රී ලංකාව දිවයින පුරා ඇඳිරි නීතිය කොරෝනා / කොවිඩ් -19 වෛරසය පැතිරීම නිසා පැනවුයේ ඉන් දවස් කිහිපයකට පසුය.

ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය සිනමාවට නව ශානාරීයක් මෙමඟින් නිරුපණය වුවද මෙය ඉතාමත් හොඳින් ගලායාමක් ඇති සිනමා කෘතියක් නොවේ.

සිනමා කෘතියට අධික ලෙස නාට්‍යමය ස්වරුපයක් ලඟා කිරීමට යෑමෙන් චිත්‍රපටය රසවිඳීමට නරඹන්නාට තරමක් දුරට බාධාවක් එල්ලකරද මෙය ඉතාමත් හොඳින් තාක්ෂණික වශයෙන් නිර්මාණය වූ සිනමා කෘතියකි.

සිනමා කෘතිය හරහා ආගම සහ ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ විශ්වාස පද්ධතිය දැඩි ලෙස විවේචනයට බඳුන් කර ඇත.

අධියථාර්තවාදී සිනමා සම්ප්‍රදාය සහ ත්‍රාසජනක සිනමා සම්ප්‍රදායේ මිශ්‍රණයක් වන මෙම සිනමා කෘතිය ශ්‍රී ලංකීය සිනමාවේ නව මානයක් නිරුපණය කරන බව පැවසිය හැක.

ඩේවිඩ් ලින්ච් හා ක්වින්ටන් ටරන්ටිනෝ ගේ සිනමා සම්ප්‍රදායන් මෙන්ම 1960 වර්ශයේදී බිහිවූ ඇල්ෆ්‍රඩ් හිච්කොක් ගේ "සයිකෝ" සිනමා කෘතියේ ලක්ෂණ පෙන්වීම හරහා මෙම සිනමා කෘතිය ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය සිනමාවේ නව සංදිස්ථානයක් පෙන්නුම් කරයි.

මෙම සන්දිස්ථානය හරහා "ඇවිළෙනසුළුයි (2020)" සිනමා කෘතිය ශනරිය වශයෙන් ශ්‍රී ලාංකීය සිනමාවේ ළඟා කරගන්නා විශාල සාර්ථකත්වයකි.

Avilenasului (Inflammable) (2020) : A Sri Lankan surrealist thriller film

I watched Avilenasului (Inflammable) on 13th March 2020 just before the Corona / Covid-19 pandemic outbreak hit Sri Lanka and lead to a whole countrywide curfew.

The film though unveils a new genre for Sri Lankan cinema is not a well-driven film.

The film was really good technically but it was overly dramatized creating a drawback to the viewers to enjoy the film.

The film openly criticizes religion and the belief system of the Sri Lankans through this film.

The filmmaker has used a mixture of surrealism and thriller genre very productively which is a good sign for the Sri Lankan cinema.

Films like Alfred Hitchcock's Psycho (1960), Styles of David Lynch, and Quentin Tarantino are evident in "Avilenasului" which marks a milestone in Sri Lankan cinema.

With this milestone, "Avilenasului" marks a great achievement in Sri Lankan cinema genre-wise.

Samige Kathawa / Sam's Story (2011) - The social and personal effects of the Sri Lanka's 30 year old war

Samige Kathawa / Sam's Story (2011) was based on Captain Elmo Jayawardane's novel of the same name, Sam's Story (2001).

Sirirathna or Sam is a child and a man who struggles with poverty, disabilities he bought from birth, and threats from the external environment. Life gets worse with the civil war in Sri Lanka. All these struggles and pressures are depicted artistically by the filmmaker to the viewers.

How the Sri Lankan civil war impacted the high and lower social tiers of Sri Lanka, how racism functions in Sri Lanka, the differences in ideologies of rich and poor are depicted in the film in a beautiful manner.

This film is an accurate and realistic reflection of the Sri Lankan society by using very tactical cinematography and beautiful musical compositions.

The main role of Sam played by Jagath Chamila and a sub role is played by Sanath Gunathilaka is an unforgettable acting performance.

Though I have not read the novel published in 2001, the film was filled with humanity and brings tears to the viewer's eyes.

සැමිගේ කථාව (2011) සිනමා කෘතිය කපිතාන් එල්මෝ ජයවර්ධනගේ Sam's Story (2001) නවකතාව ඇසුරෙන් නිර්මාණය වූ සිනමා කෘතියකි.

සිරිරත්න හෙවත් සැම් නම් දරුවා සහ තරුණයාගේ දැඩි දරිද්‍රතාවයෙන් පීඩිත, ඔහුගේ උපතින් ලද මානසික මෙන්ම කායික දුර්වලතා හා බාහිර පරිසරයෙන් එල්ල වූ පීඩනයන් මැද ගෙවීයන ජීවිතයට ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පැවති තිස් වසරක සිවිල් යුද්ධය නිසාද එල්ලවන පීඩනයන්ට ද මුහුණ දෙන ආකාරය මෙම චිත්‍රපටය හරහා කලාත්මක අයුරින් සිනමා රසිකයාට ලඟාකරදීමට සමත් වී ඇත.

සුන්දර කැමරාකරණයක් මෙන්ම සොඳුරු සංගීත කාණ්ඩ හරහා අලංකාරවත්ව නිර්මාණය වූ මෙම සිනමා නිර්මාණය ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ පවත්නා සමාජ ක්‍රමය නිර්මාණත්මකව මෙන්ම යතාර්තවාදීව නිරුපණය කිරීමක් ලෙස හැඳින්විය හැක.

ප්‍රධාන චරිතය නිරුපණය කරන සැමි ට රංගනයෙන් දායකත්වය දෙන ජගත් චමිල සහ උප චරිතයකට පන පොවන සනත් ගුණතිලක අමතක නොවන රංගන දායකත්වයක් සිනමා කෘතියට ලබා දෙයි.

මා 2001 දී පළවූ නවකතාව කියවා නොමැති වුවත් කිසිඳු බාධාවකින් තොරව රසවිඳිය හැකි වූ මෙම සිනමා සිත්තම මානව වාදී තේමාවකින් ගලායන අතර ඇසට කඳුලක් ගෙන එන කතාවකි.

2020.02.13 - 'Is Love Political ?' / 'ආදරය දේශපාලනිකයි ?' - A prelude to valentine : An event that took the relationship between love and literature to another level

Is love political or not, is love the reason for the beginning of literature or the other way around.

All these aspects of love were discussed during the event where I participated in 2020.02.13. at Sri Lanka Foundation Institute, Colombo.

A social activist/politician, a journalist and two female writers participated and a famous social media activist hosted the event.

The host was Shenal Gunasekara.

This literature-based event that took place on the day prior to Valentine's day was special because Mr. Gunasiri Silva and Mr. Mohan Raj Madawala also participated and shared their ideas with the audience.

I went there with my friend Mr. Kavindya Piyasumana.

This event started at 6 PM and went on till 10 PM, but I was only their till 9 PM.

With the modern Sri Lankan Sinhalese literature facing a crisis in lack of discourse, this event can be considered as a successful and useful event.

2020.02.13 - 'Is Love Political ?' / 'ආදරය දේශපාලනිකයි ?' - වැලන්ටයින් එකට පුර්විකාවක්..... : ආදරයේ සහ සාහිත්‍යයේ බැඳීම නව මානයකට රැගෙන ගිය අවස්ථාවක්....

ආදරය අදේශපලනිකද? එය දේශපාලනිකද? යන්න විවාදයට ගැනීම සංකීර්ණ රාජකාරියකි.

ආදරය සාහිත්‍යය මගින් නිර්මිත හැඟීමක්ද ? නැත්නම් සාහිත්‍යය ආදරය මඟින් නිර්මිත හැඟීමක්ද යන්නද ලෙස විශ්ලේෂණයද එලෙසම සංකීර්ණ රාජකාරියකි.

මෙම රාජකාරිය ඉටුකිරීමට දැරූ උත්සහයක් ලෙස මෙම අවස්ථාව හැඳින්වීම වඩාත් යෝග්‍යය.

ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ නුතන සමාජයේ ප්‍රකට සමාජ ක්‍රියාදරයෙක් / දේශපාලකයෙක්, මාධ්‍යවේදියෙක් සහ ලේඛිකාවන් දෙදෙනෙක් සහභාගී වූ මෙම අවස්ථාව සඳහා නුතන ශ්‍රී ලංකාවේ ප්‍රකට විද්‍යුත් සමාජ මාධ්‍යය ක්‍රියාකාරිකයකු 'පූරක' ලෙස සහභාගී විය.

මොවුන් විසින් මෙම අවස්ථාවේදී විශ්ලේෂණයට ගත් ග්‍රන්ථ සහ ඔවුන්ගේ නම් පහත ලෙස ඇමුණුම් සමග පෙලගැස් විය හැක.

මම සහභාගී වුයේ මගේ මිතුරු 'කාවින්ද්‍ය පියසුමන' සමගය.

මෙම උත්සවය සවස 6ට පමණ ආරම්භ වූ අතර රාත්‍රී 10 වනතෙක් ශ්‍රී ලංකා පදනම් ආයතනයේ පවතී අතර රාත්‍රී 9ට පමණ මට පිටවීමට සිදුවිය.

ඉතාම හොඳින් සංවිධානය කරන ලද සාහිත්‍යමය උත්සවයක් වන මෙම අවස්ථාව වර්තමාන සිංහල සාහිත්‍යය මුහුණ දී ඇති අර්බුධය හමුවේ වටිනා කාර්යභාරයකි.

Resolutions : 2019

By the end of 2018 like the previous year (2017) I personally established a list of resolutions focusing on goal achievement which will enhance my quality of life and new learnings.

During the previous year (2018) I was able to set 5 resolutions for the current year (2019).

2019 was one of the worst years of my life. I had no job or education this year.

Like the previous year, I couldn't get through ICASL: Executive level. It was due to my personal decision of changing my academic focus into non-academic objective attainment. 

Thereby I missed an opportunity to achieve one of my resolutions for 2019.

Though I did a 1 job, at an audit firm [Deloitte Sri Lanka (SJMS) (January 2019 to March 2019)]  which was tough and was extremely ridiculed by my senior staff, the survival by conducting the work even at an average pace and with an acceptable accuracy was commendable in my opinion.

I helped out Mr. Rukshan Perera (Rukshan Ayya) in his financial statements for his construction company (Grand Shades Engineering (Pvt) Ltd.) during the period of July 30th to December of 2019. This was also not as complete or accurate as I expected the financial statements to be.

I was again a vegetarian in 2019 from February to June on and off due to religious reasons.

I started a Masters in Business Administration (MBA) specialized in finance from the University of Colombo (U of C) from December 2019 to February 2020 due to boredom at home which was stopped due to my new job which I found in the year 2020 February. (NEXT Campus (Pvt) Ltd.)

I traveled a lot in 2019 with my family.

Overall the objective of having resolutions for a year is to have a good life. 

And it was not a good year (2019) for me. 

Hoping to go forward (survive) in 2020 better than in 2019.

The main reason for the lack of objective attainment is the lack of focus in academic life and professional life.

And also too much weight on non-academic objective attainment.
