දැනුනා [ A review on Iraj Weeraratne's new song]
Iraj Weeraratne was known simply as "IRAJ" is a Sri Lankan rapper and a songwriter. His main genre is hip hop.
Iraj is the first Sri Lankan music artist to have entered into the "Tollywood" (Tamil films) music industry and to perform a song with the western sensation "Sean Kingston".
Iraj's discography is IRAJ (2010), Chapter 02: Aloke (2013), and Manamali (2014). These were produced by M - Entertainment.
(Wikipedia.com)
Iraj in 2017 produced "Danune" which was published on September 25th, in his youtube official page, and on November 5th it has reached over 3 million views and even created a negative impression among the Sri Lankan music fans and artists.
The link for the song is below.

The song starts stating the title and artists involved as "IRAJ - Danuna ft Sahan & Kaizer Kaiz",
saying the storyline reflected is an imaginary story and not related to real life. The music video shows a love story between an old musician and a young fan. This song shows a depiction of their love against the social norms and traditions flourishing there personal life. Further, it reflects the old musician's grown children showing dislike towards this relationship beginning quickly after their mother's or the artist's wife's death. The song's video shows the old musician participating in a music concert with a large "Pa" / "ප", a Sinhala letter in the Sinhalese alphabet. This has caused much turmoil in the Sri Lankan society and the song and video end the couple leading a normal family life.
The song has been criticized for attacking a famous Sri Lankan artist's personal life with the same situation currently in the local music scene and the industry.
There have been even parodies created by other artists as an answer for the relevant music video showing how far the negativity of the song and the video has impacted the Sri Lankan society and the music industry.
The link for the parody is below.

I would not like to analyze the artist or the personal issue Iraj has tried to capitalize as a love song in his video, but I would really like to discuss his decline in the skill and talent of creating, producing songs and music videos.
Iraj weeraratne first collaborated with Ranidu Lankage, a Sri Lankan R&B and hip hop artist who together raised the international profile of Sri Lankan RnB / pop.
They were a parallel competition to Bathiya and Santhush, known simply as BnS who are a Sri Lankan hip hop duo consisting of Bathiya Jayakody and Santhush Weeraman. They have been one of the most commercially successful music artists in Sri Lanka in the last two decades.
Now Iraj's latest songs with his visuals and videos have been able to go into many extreme levels of breaking social norms and taboo's touching many socio-cultural aspects creating many youtube video views and also discourse in the society but to be honest in my opinion as a music fan of Sri Lanka they have declined in quality with respect to audio, video, music, melody and even lyrics.
And this decline of talent and skill has been shown in this new video song as well.
My suggestion is not to waste time in this talentless depiction of imagery.
I hope he will be able to garner the talent he had when he produced IRAJ in 2010 to satisfy his local Sri Lankan and foreign fans with some good musical work.
